Boni Windmill: Mykonos’ Open-Air Museum with a View.

Perched on a hilltop with sweeping views over Mykonos Town (Chora), the Boni Windmill offers visitors one of the most breathtaking panoramas of the sunset and the Aegean Sea. This 16th-century stone-built windmill, named after its last owner and miller, George Bonis, is a striking monument to the island’s past. Purchased in 1962, it now forms part of the Folklore Museum of Mykonos and has been transformed into an open-air museum—unique in the entire Aegean.

Inside, the fully preserved windmill mechanism, along with the miller’s original tools and equipment, tells the story of pre-industrial Mykonos, where the production of bread and wine was an essential part of everyday life. Visitors can also explore the surrounding buildings, which complete the immersive journey into the island’s agricultural traditions.

The Boni Windmill is open to visitors from May 1 to October 15, daily from 17:00 to 21:00 (with private tours available upon request). For information and bookings, contact mykonosfolkloremuseum@gmail.com.
