This summer, Mykonos becomes the setting for a landmark exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Ioanna Efthymiou. On Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, at 7:00 PM, the Myconian Villa Collection in Elia will host the opening of a grand retrospective celebrating thirty years of the artist’s creative journey.
Efthymiou, who graduated with honors from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 1995 under the mentorship of the late Dimitris Mytaras, has forged a distinguished path on the global art scene. Her expressive Pop Art portraits, often infused with bold, emotional energy, have earned her recognition in London, New York, Monaco, and beyond.
Her academic career included postgraduate studies on scholarship at the Royal College of Art in London and the Pratt Institute of Arts in Brooklyn. A pivotal moment in her career came with her series of portraits dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II—created with the Queen’s personal permission. Twelve of these works now belong to the Royal Collection, highlighting the international esteem her work commands.
Efthymiou’s career has also been marked by her exhibitions in Monaco, including collaborations with Prince Albert II. Her projects there featured portraits of Princess Grace as well as art contributions to the Prince’s Automobile Museum, including a striking collection inspired by Ferrari.
The retrospective in Mykonos presents a sweeping view of Efthymiou’s artistic evolution. On display are iconic portraits of Audrey Hepburn (notably Breakfast at Tiffany’s), Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein, Maria Callas, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, and Jackie Kennedy, alongside works focused on cultural heritage, such as her pieces advocating for the return of the Parthenon Marbles.
Efthymiou’s signature combination of Pop sensibility with expressionist intensity places her among the most compelling contemporary voices in international painting. This retrospective is not only a tribute to her thirty-year journey but also an invitation to explore the vivid narratives that animate her work.
The exhibition runs until September 30th, 2025, offering visitors the opportunity to experience a collection that bridges icons, history, and personal expression—all within the luxurious setting of the Myconian Villa Collection.
In addition to her artistic achievements, Efthymiou serves as President of the Maria Callas Monaco Gala & Awards—a prestigious international cultural institution honoring the legendary soprano. Held annually in Monaco and other cities under the High Patronage of Prince Albert II, the gala has awarded figures such as Monica Bellucci, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco, Nana Mouskouri, Shirley Bassey, Plácido Domingo Jr., Marianna Latsi, Klelia Hatzigiannou, Katerina Panagopoulou, and Mimi Denissi, among many others.
